E-Bike Route to the Enlightenment Stupa in Benalmádena
This e-bike route takes you from the heart of Malaga to the impressive Enlightenment Stupa in Benalmadena, offering a mix of coastal views and cultural exploration.
Start your journey at bike2malaga in central Malaga. Head southwest along the coastal road (Paseo Marítimo Pablo Ruiz Picasso), enjoying views of the Mediterranean Sea and Modern Malaga. Continue cycling until you reach the Guadalhorce River, where you'll follow a gravel path along the riverbank. Cross the river via the wooden bridge, then head south toward Guadalmar and continue along the beach areas of Torremolinos.
As you approach Torremolinos, the route begins to climb slightly. Continue through Torremolinos and into Benalmadena. Here, turn inland on Av. del Chorrillo, which becomes Av. de Retamar. This road will lead you uphill towards the Stupa.
The last part of the ascent to the Stupa is the most challenging, but your e-bike will make it manageable. The Enlightenment Stupa, standing at 33 meters tall, is the largest Buddhist stupa in the Western world. Take time to explore this serene site and enjoy panoramic views of the Costa del Sol.
For the return journey, you can either retrace your route or, for variety, head slightly inland through Arroyo de la Miel and Torremolinos before rejoining the coastal road back to Malaga.
The coastal sections are relatively flat, with the main climb being the approach to the Stupa. Your e-bike will help manage any challenging sections, making this an enjoyable ride suitable for most fitness levels. There are numerous cafes and restaurants along the route for refreshment stops.
This e-bike adventure combines seaside charm, cultural interest, and beautiful views, showcasing the diverse attractions of the Costa del Sol.
