Optional extra climb on route: RB-02

Las Mesas de Villaverde

Las Mesas de Villaverde (595 m.a.s.l.) is an old road to the medieval settlement Bobastro, later it was prolonged to the top of the hill when the upper deposit of the central hydropower station was built. This means that if you feel a bit dead tired, you can stop in the middle of the climb to refresh your mind by observing the Mozarabic architecture.

As this hill was part of Vuelta a España in 2016, a stage won by Esteban Chavez, we can enjoy the amazing asphalt rebuilt for this event.

Starting in El Chorro, there are 3km to reach the turn for this summit, since this turn starts a proper climb between the pines. During the whole 5km, there are ramps over 10%, only the last kilometer will reward your effort with a nice overlook of the natural gorge Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, peak El Huma and other impressive views all around.
