Road bike route description
This short loop heading to the west climbs with some lovely viewpoints above the whole Costa del Sol is above Benalmadena-Fuengirola at about 1000 m.a.s.l.
Leaving Malaga Center follow the streets Marmoles / Martinez Maldonado / Av. de Carlos Haya and then turn left for the Universidad (University). Having cycled 400m, turn right and follow the MA-405/A-7076 to go to Campanillas. In Campanillas stay on the A-7054 till Estacion de Cartama.
Turn left in the direction of Cartama and Alhaurin El Grande over the roads A-7057 and later from Cartama via the MA-3304 to Alhaurin. Riding through the village, take the A-387 which leads to Mijas which is an amazing white village.
At the 1st roundabout, turn left towards Benalmadena, the road A-368, and in 1km, in a sharp turn, take left over the small road up to the top. You have the last 5km to climb, starting with 10% gradient and finishing with 12-13%. The views are impressive on the top so plan to get a break there.
To return, take the same road down and on the sharp turn, take left to Benalmadena over the A-368. Go through the city staying on the same road until you reach Torremolinos and the national road N-340. This road takes you back to Malaga, later named as the MA-21 which allows you to cycle. It is pretty busy. The last part can be ridden along the cost to the centre.
